Vitale Issues Statement on Legislation Improving Tracking for Medicaid Applications Now Law

Trenton – Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Chair Senator Joseph Vitale issued the following statement on his bill (S-499) that will provide for improved system for eligibility determination for Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare being signed into law by Governor Phil Murphy:

“Ultimately, we want to make healthcare and services provided through Medicaid more accessible to the people who qualify for them. With any government program, we know we can do better, and this bill is going to help us collect the data we need to make those determinations. This bill will create a stronger IT infrastructure to more efficiently track Medicaid applications at a county and state-level.

“With this, we will be able to determine where best to target resources, make adjustments and better serve the people who need it most. I am grateful to my co-sponsor Senator Madden and the Governor for seeing the space for improvement and taking the steps necessary to make those improvements happen.”
