Vitale-Lagana-Pou Bill to Require Health Coverage for Coronavirus Testing Signed into Law

Vitale-Lagana-Pou Bill to Require Health Coverage for Coronavirus Testing Signed into Law

Trenton – Chairman of the Senate Health Committee Senator Joseph Vitale, Senator Joseph Lagana and Senator Nellie Pou issued the following joint statement on their bill, A-3843/S-2283, being signed into law by Governor Phil Murphy. The law will require health insurance and Medicaid to cover testing for COVID-19, telehealth and telemedicine services, without cost-sharing requirements during the state of emergency.

“The fact we have to do this bill at all, shows the pitfalls of our health care system. In a crisis like the one we are currently experiencing, action is measured in minutes not days and any hesitation for fear of health care coverage puts everyone at greater risk. This bill makes it clear that regardless of your health care plan, while we collectively confront the growing pandemic, you are going to be covered.

“This is a critical bill in the midst of the coronavirus crisis and we are all grateful the Governor has taken such swift action to put this legislation into law.”
