Wahler Creates Outdoor Seating for Piscataway Restaurants

Executive Order Enables More Customers

and Social Distancing at Local Eateries

May 13, 2020 – Piscataway Mayor Brian C. Wahler today signed an executive order that enables Piscataway restaurants to provide up to 120 days of outdoor seating for customers as soon as a state order reestablishing dine-in service goes into effect.

With this new municipal measure, restaurant owners will be able to promote social distancing as well as serve more patrons, providing a needed boost of customers to the Township’s many family-run eateries.

“Piscataway is home to many restaurants that provide wonderful meals from a wide variety of cuisines and they are an integral part of the fabric that has made our Township what Money magazine has recognized as one of the top 100 best places to live in America,” Mayor Wahler said.  “While we do not yet know the precise day when state authorities will begin relaxing quarantine-related restrictions, we want our local restaurants to be prepared for more business when it happens.”

Under the executive order, restaurants will need to have a zoning permit application approved by the Township.  However, no site plan application, performance bond, maintenance bond or engineering inspection fees will be required, and Township officials will work to expedite the process.
