Warren County Commissioner Kern Joins Calls for Smart Bear Management Policy

Warren County Commissioner James Kern III joined the calls from Senator Oroho and Assemblymen Space and Wirths that a science-based bear management plan is needed for New Jersey.

“For the past 4 years, political science has been the lead driver for bear management in our state. We need real wildlife professionals to help implement a plan that keeps residents in our most rural parts of the state safe. When public policy is driven by bumper stickers and slogans instead of research-based materials, we cannot expect good results.” Kern said.

Last September, the New Jersey Fish and Game Council unanimously approved an emergency order to reestablish a black bear hunt in the state.

“The Governor and the DEP Commissioner must address bear management. Their lack of action puts many at risk and their silence on the matter is unacceptable.”
