Watchung Mayor Keith Balla Will Not Run for Re-Election

WATCHUNG, NJ – Mayor Keith S. Balla announced today he will not seek re-election to a second,
four-year term this year.

“I am stepping away from municipal government to devote more time to my family, my business and
my church,” said Balla, a Democrat and mayor since 2019.

For nine remaining months of his term, Balla pledged to “continue to actively do what is best and most
cost-effective for the people and families of Watchung. My commitment to my community is important
to me.”

Balla apprised Watchung Democratic Chairman Louis Beckerman of his intentions this week before
making a public announcement prior to the Monday, April 4 filing deadline for the upcoming June
primary.

The mayor’s office and two borough council seats are on the ballot.

Balla, 63, is a forensic accountant with PKF O'Connor Davies LLP, a regional accounting and
consulting firm, in its Cranford office. He is an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clark.

“I stepped away from leadership roles in my church when I became mayor,” said Balla, who served
several terms as congregation president; on its Board of Elders; and as diocese treasurer for 15 years.
