WEBER FOR CONGRESS STATEMENT ON THE CBO ANALYSIS OF THE TRUMP/HOUSE REPUBLICAN HEALTH CARE BILL
“Today’s Congressional Budget Office (CBO) score of the Trump/House Republican health care bill confirms the worst fears of most Americans. For many of us having access to affordable health care could mean the difference between life and death, which is why the Trump/House Republican health care bill is both irresponsible and dangerous. It is unconscionable that Congress is working so hard to pass a bill that will force 23 million Americans to lose their health coverage and impose a massive age tax on many older Americans, some of whom could see their premiums rise as much as 800%. An issue as serious as health care should never be reduced to ensuring a political win for the President. This bill will cause many New Jersey families to lose their health coverage. It will also raise premiums. While the behavior of President Trump is selfish and reckless, what’s worse is the refusal of House Republicans like Representative Leonard Lance to hold him accountable and put the needs of their constituents ahead of their party. Representative Lance voted for this destructive bill in committee.
Like states across the country, many New Jersey families have been devastated by the opioid crisis. New Jersey also has the fourth highest cancer rate in the nation. This is a time when access to quality, affordable health care should be expanded. This is a time for leadership that is not afraid to stand up to President Trump and stand up for people and principles.”
