Weinberg Lauds Approval of Gateway Board Members by Senate Judiciary Committee

TRENTON – Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg (D-Bergen) issued the following statement today after the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to approve the nominations of Janine Bauer and Balpreet Grewal-Virk to the Gateway Development Commission Board:

“As the chief sponsor of legislation creating a new board for the Gateway Development Corporation, I was proud to see New Jersey’s nominees move through the Judiciary Committee today, and I am particularly proud to see two such distinguished women appointed to this very important commission.

“Janine Bauer has a tremendous background in mass transit issues and has been an advocate for new rail tunnels under the Hudson since the early days of the ARC Project. Dr. Balpreet Grewal-Virk has a Ph.D. in health and medical science and will bring rigorous analytical skills to the complex issues facing the board.

“With President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris just a month away from taking office, we can be confident that the Gateway project will be put on a fast track for funding, building two new tunnels, repairing the existing tunnels and finally providing a one-seat ride to Manhattan on all NJ Transit lines.”
