Weinberg, McKeon Reiterate Commitment to Strong NJ Transit Reform Bill

TRENTON – Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg (D-Bergen) and Assemblyman John McKeon (D-Essex), sponsors of NJ Transit reform legislation that has passed the Senate and is awaiting Assembly action, issued the following statement after meeting with state Transportation Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti, NJ Transit Executive Director Kevin Corbett and other Administration officials today:

“We had a productive meeting with Commissioner Gutierrez-Scaccetti, Executive Director Corbett and senior Administration officials today to discuss the details of S630/A1241, the NJ Transit reform bill we put together in the wake of extensive hearings by the Senate Legislative Oversight and Assembly Judiciary committees.

“Now that the Administration’s audit of NJ Transit is under final review, we will be working closely with Administration officials to finalize our legislation, which will expand and strengthen the NJ Transit Board and make NJ Transit more responsive, transparent and accountable to the hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans who rely on the agency to deliver safe, reliable rail, bus and light rail service every day.

“We look forward to ensuring that our bill receives final legislative approval in the next few weeks and is signed into law by Governor Murphy this fall.”
