Will Cunningham Receives Brady Campaign Endorsement for Commitment to Gun Control Reform

Vineland, NJ – Will Cunningham, former investigator on Capitol Hill and current candidate for Congress in NJ-02, was awarded an endorsement from The Brady Campaign this week for his commitment to passing comprehensive gun control legislation.

In the wake of deadly gun violence across the country and in New Jersey’s Second District, the  gun violence prevention organization announced a series of endorsements in Congressional and statewide races throughout the country.

“I am truly honored to receive the endorsement of the Brady Campaign,” said Cunningham. “Our children are dying, and innocent Americans are being slaughtered because so many of our politicians – including my NRA-A rated opponent Jeff Van Drew – refuse to stand up to the gun lobby and do what is right – pass sensible gun control measures that keep guns out of the hands of criminals and those wishing our communities harm,” said Will Cunningham.

“We’re proud to stand with these outstanding candidates, all of whom have shown themselves to be dedicated champions when it comes to gun violence prevention,” stated Kris Brown, co-president of the Brady Campaign. “With nationwide polls consistently showing that gun safety is a top issue in the minds of voters, we are going to see a clear trend this election cycle. The intensity of pro-gun violence prevention voters has never been stronger. If you stand with the overwhelming majority of voters for common-sense gun reform, you will be rewarded at the ballot box. If you stand with the NRA and the gun lobby, you will be looking for a new job.”

Cunningham, a Vineland native, former House Investigator, and former policy writer for Senator Booker, understands the critical importance of electing a representative in Congress who will stand up to the powerful gun lobby and vote to put an end to gun violence in our country. Cunningham recently received the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate Distinction, and has signed the noNRAmoney.org pledge, promising to put the interests of his constituents first – before wealthy gun lobbyists.

Cunningham’s Democratic primary opponent Jeff Van Drew, on the other hand, has a history of accepting money from the gun lobby, voted against common sense gun control measures, and even has a 100 percent A rating from the NRA.

Will Cunningham is committed to fighting for his home district. Will has a history of fighting for those in need; he’s worked as a teacher in low-income schools, a policy writer and advocate in Senator Cory Booker’s office, and an Investigator for the Congressional House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, where he cracked down on pharmaceutical companies’ unfair prescription drug price-gouging practices. Will has what it takes to stand up to the powerful gun lobby in Washington, and to fight for the protection and safety of the community in which he was raised.

The Brady Campaign, united with the Million Mom March, is a national network of over 90 grassroots chapter affiliates mobilized to prevent gun violence at the community level. The network has played a vital role in expanding Brady background checks in the six states that have passed legislation since the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut and produced one of the largest national protests of gun violence in U.S. history – The Million Mom March, Mother’s Day 2000.
