William T. Mullen Statement on the Portal Bridge Project

CLARK – William T. Mullen, President of the New Jersey Building & Construction Trades Council released the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s tweeted support for the $811 million for the Portal Bridge project in Kearny, New Jersey:

“Governor Murphy’s successful effort to gain some key federal support of the Portal Bridge funding means thousands of jobs for men and women of the New Jersey Building and Construction Trades Council. President Trump’s support for the project is a positive step New Jersey is on the right track for this infrastructure investment to move ahead.

It is also important to single out our congressional delegation’s efforts lead by Senators Menendez and Booker who have been steadfast working behind the scenes over the last few years to make this major rail project a reality.

This is a win-win situation because New Jersey commuters will receive much needed relief and rider reliability while thousands of jobs will be created during one of the most uncertain economic times in our nation. This is just another example of Garden State infrastructure investment moving in the right direction with recent action taken in February by the Federal Transit Administration and now the President making public his support for the US Department of Transportation to release the $811 million requested to complete the project.”
