Winners – Mahwah Republican Club Essay Scholarship

Mahwah, NJ – The Mahwah Republican Club is honored to announce this year’s winners of the Mahwah Republican Club Essay Scholarship. This year’s theme was “Let Freedom Ring: Our freedom and freedom around the world are under attack. As a young adult what are your views and what are you going to do about it?”. The scholarship is eligible to any high school senior residing in Mahwah, NJ who is going on to college or a trade school.

The scholarships are offered annually, with the generous support of the local club members. The club would like to thank all those members who donated to this year’s scholarship fund.

This year’s winners are 1st place Katie Contey and 2nd place Ava Politis. Katie is a graduating senior from Mahwah High School who is going on to attend Villanova University in the fall. Katie is the recipient of a $500 scholarship. Ava is a graduating senior from Bergen County Academies who is going on to attend Dartmouth College in the fall. Ava is the recipient of a $250 scholarship.

Both recipients attended the awards presentation ceremony on Tuesday, June 21st in the Terrace Room of the Mahwah Municipal building. At which, they received a certificate, a map of Mahwah from the Mahwah Museum and a scholarship check. The winners were also invited to read their essays to the club. The club received their spoken essays with resounding applause.
