Wisniewski announces divestment as LCV Continues to greenwash Murphy
SAYREVILLE, N.J. – The League of Conservation Voters’ announcement today to support Phil Murphy with mailings is an $100,000 attempt to greenwash dirty energy investor Phil Murphy’s hypocritical stance on fracking and pipeline construction in New Jersey. Instead of greenwashing, it’s time for Phil Murphy to take the real step of following John Wisniewski’s lead and divest his significant dirty energy holdings.

This is the first time the LCV has done mailings on behalf of a candidate, and it’s entirely due to the pressure they are under for their unconscionable endorsement of Phil Murphy.

“Shame on LCV. The League made a dirty deal with someone who is personally invested in the very things they oppose and now they need to spend the money to convince their membership otherwise,” said Wisniewski. “They are only taking this action to try to convince their memberships to buy a candidate who is the antithesis of everything they stand for.”

It has been almost two weeks since fracking Phil Murphy told reporters after the debate that he may divest his holdings. Divesting is the only way for Phil Murphy to prove he is worried more for the environment than his portfolio. Its hypocritical for him to stand with environmental groups and still be invested in these companies.

Said Wisniewski, “Its time for Phil Murphy to divest his holdings in these companies. Phil Murphy is still worried about his returns on his investments and not on the environment. I myself have divested from my mutual fund that owns these companies and its time for Phil to follow my lead and divest his dirty energy holdings. Its time for Phil to put his money where his mouth is.”
