Wisniewski to Ride Seastreak Ferry as Prelude to Committee Hearing on Subsidization
(SAYREVILLE) – Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee Chair John S. Wisniewski on Wednesday will travel on a Seastreak ferry from Atlantic Highlands to Hoboken in advance of an upcoming committee meeting on the ferry service.
The boat will depart from Seastreak Terminal, located at 2 Simon Lake Drive, Atlantic Highlands, on Wednesday at 7:45 a.m. and will arrive at Hoboken Ferry Terminal, located at 1 Hudson Place, Hoboken, at 8:45 a.m. The ride will serve as a fact-finding expedition prior to the committee’s hearing regarding the subsidy Seastreak received from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey via the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
Members of the media may accompany Wisniewski, who will be available to respond to inquiries during the ride and upon arrival in Hoboken.
The committee meeting, to be held Monday morning at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, will focus on ferry service and the fare subsidy, estimated to be about $95 per passenger round trip, which in July was suspended. Under Gov. Chris Christie, millions of dollars from the Port Authority’s budget – money originally intended to fund the Access to the Region’s Core (ARC) commuter rail tunnel – were reallocated to subsidize ferry commutes between Monmouth and Hudson counties.
