Wisniewski Statement on Christie’s Cut to Funding for Freight Rail

Governor Broke Promise of $8M for Freight Transportation Infrastructure

(TRENTON) – Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee Chair John S. Wisniewski (D-Middlesex) issued the following statement Thursday regarding Gov. Christie’s veto of $8 million in funding for freight rail projects in the Department of Transportation’s budget:

“Funding our freight transportation system is about more than getting cargo from one place to another; in addition to being an environmentally-friendly way to move goods over land, freight rail provides a means of generating jobs in New Jersey and making our state more competitive in the regional economy.

“The Democratic budget acknowledged the significance of this funding. The governor’s cutting it – which he repeatedly said he would not do – is an unwise, yet unsurprising, setback for our state’s transportation infrastructure.”
