Working Closely with Mayors, Council, and Community Groups, Gottheimer Helps Secure Safety Signage, Lower Speed Limits Along I-80 S-Curve

NEWTON, NJ – On Friday, April 10, 2020, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) commended the installation of new speed limit signs and warning signs on the three-quarter-mile S-Curve stretch on I-80 in Knowlton. Gottheimer has worked closely with local elected officials, community groups to communicate with the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Commissioner Diane Guttierrez-Scaccetti about the number of accidents on the turns, and the importance of more signs and lower speed limits along this stretch.

“After years of local concerns, and working closely with Knowlton Mayor Adele Starrs, Hardwick Mayor Kevin Duffy, Hardwick Deputy Mayor Alfred Carrazzone, Knowlton Councilmen Bob McNinch and Frank Van Horn, NJDOT is lowering the speed limit and placing more safety and warning signs along I-80. We must continue to do everything we can to help protect our families and commuters,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “I also continue to hear from residents all over the area about the proposed rockwall. I will continue to work with state and local officials to find a fiscally-responsible solution that ensures the safety of our drivers, while not impacting the local economy and pristine surroundings.”

Fifteen yellow arrow signs, arrow signs on a previously-unmarked curve, and a 50 MPH sign closer to the start of the curved stretch are among the new signage on I-80.
