WRONGFULLY TERMINATED NJ JANITORS TO RECEIVE BACK PAY TOTALING MORE THAN HALF A MILLION DOLLARS

Newark—On Monday, August 21st at 12pm, checks will be handed out to a group of office cleaners who were illegally terminated in 2014 when a new contractor refused to hire them because of their union affiliation.  The payment, totaling more than half a million dollars, is part of a settlement agreement with their former employer, Eastern Essential Services.  The contractor agreed to make them whole for lost wages and benefits after the cleaners’ union, 32BJ SEIU, filed charges with the National Labor Relations Board who subsequently issued a complaint against Eastern Essential Services and sided with the union.

It was a long road to victory for these workers—many of whom are single mothers and grandmothers– who marched, rallied and leafletted in the rain, heat, sleet and snow.  Come hear their stories of hardships, perseverance and triumph!
