Young Republicans: Murphy Budget Giving Millennials the Short Straw

Bergen County Young Republican leaders grew worried in response to the budget passed by Democrats in Trenton. The young republicans are particularly concerned with the cost of living in the most taxed state in the country.

While the Democrats celebrate the deal they crafted for a budget, as usual, the millennials are left holding the short end of the stick. While illegal immigrants and friends of the administration are taken care of, those struggling to afford life in the Garden State are hit hard once again.

“As a law student, there are days I almost have to consider taking the bar in other states upon graduation,” said NJYRF Chairman Giancarlo Ghione, “there may be a point in the near future where New Jersey is simply unaffordable. The democrats in New Jersey have shown their great pleasure in raising taxes to fund liberal programs while forgetting about the middle class.”

The Democrats tax hikes specifically target services used by millennials such as ride sharing services and shore house rentals. Further, new tax increases on businesses will mean less jobs available and less compensation for those who are able to obtain employment It is no wonder why young people are finding it harder and harder to start a professional life in a state which is actively targeting them.

Matt Gilson, Chairman of the Bergen County Young Republicans does see hope. “It was encouraging to see Republicans in Trenton stand united against these ridiculous tax increases. Hopefully voters will see this and respond by flipping the legislature in 2019 and 2021.”

“The Young Republicans across the state are committed to reversing the Democrats tax increases by helping to elect Republicans this fall,” Ghione said.
