Abdelaziz Condemns Trump's Executive Order Dismantling the U.S. Department of Education

PATERSON, NJ – Assemblyman Al Abdelaziz, a member of the Assembly Education and Higher Education Committees, issued the following statement:

“President Trump’s executive order to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education is a direct assault on our students, educators, and the foundation of our nation’s future. This reckless move jeopardizes critical federal funding for special education, low-income schools, and vital student programs, all while weakening civil rights protections that ensure every child has a fair shot at success. Rather than strengthening our education system, this order creates chaos, shifts responsibilities to overburdened state agencies, and deepens disparities that already exist in too many communities.

“Education is the great equalizer, the key to opportunity, and a pillar of our democracy. Stripping resources from our schools limits access to knowledge, stifles economic mobility, and sets our nation on a dangerous path of division and stagnation. Our students—especially those from low-income backgrounds, English language learners, and children with disabilities—deserve better. I stand in strong opposition to this decision and call on leaders at every level to fight for our students, our teachers, and the promise of quality education for all.”
