Asm. Roy Freiman and Asw. Mitchelle Drulis Meet with Branchburg/Readington Airport Action Coalition, Share Concerns About Solberg Airport Expansion
Readington Twp., NJ - Assemblyman Roy Freiman and Assemblywoman Mitchelle Drulis met with members of the Branchburg/Readington Airport Action Coalition (BRAAC) on Friday to discuss the Master Plan for the development of Solberg Airport in Readington Township. Assemblywoman Drulis and her staff have been regularly attending public meetings regarding the airport and have harbored concerns about the process of writing this Master Plan.
“The development of the Solberg Masterplan has lacked transparency,” said Assemblywoman Drulis. “The process has cut out the community. The public meetings have lacked the ability to have a thoughtful discussion about what is included in the various presentations.”
The two Assemblymembers met with a group of concerned citizens. They discussed how approval of this Master Plan could lead to an expansion of the airport, which would allow larger jet aircraft to land at Solberg.
“One of the many reasons my family and I chose to live in Hunteron County is the rural character of our communities. The expansion and over-development of this airport would cause major disruption for Readington Township, especially the schools and parks that neighbor the property.” Asw. Mitchelle Drulis said of the proposed Master Plan.
“As a former pilot, I understand the need for some safety upgrades at Solberg, but Readington Township does not benefit from opening up this airport to jets and large aircraft. I am further concerned by the lack of transparency throughout the drafting of this Master Plan.” Assemblyman Roy Freiman said.
The members are calling for more accountability from Solberg Airport and greater scrutiny of the project from the state Department of Transportation and Department of Environmental Protection.
