Congresswoman Pou Welcomes NJ Human Services Commissioner as Joint Session Guest

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Nellie Pou (D-NJ-09) today welcomed New Jersey Department of Human Services Commissioner Sarah Adelman as her guest at tonight’s Joint Session to highlight Republican budget threats to Americans’ health care.

“When Donald Trump speaks to Congress and the nation tonight, I want him to look directly into the eyes of Commissioner Adelman sitting above to remind him of the devastating impact on the health care of countless Americans if his preferred policies are enacted,” said Congresswoman Pou. “Just last week, House Republicans voted for a budget plan that would imperil the health care of hundreds of thousands of people in our great state who rely on Medicaid to survive. New Jersey gets almost $10 billion annually to support Medicaid - that’s 37% of all federal funding New Jersey receives. Republicans want to slash that for more tax cuts for billionaires. I came to Congress to make life more affordable for New Jersey families. Republicans’ plan does nothing to lower costs. I thank Commissioner Adelman for standing up for our state in the face of cruel Republican cuts and for her department’s work to keep New Jerseyans healthy.”
