Former US Navy Pilot, Congressional Candidate Rebecca Bennett Calls for Explanation from Rep. Kean After Vote to Cut Healthcare for Veterans
Democrat Qualifies for PACT Act Coverage, Served with Vets Enrolled in Vital Program
SKILLMAN, NJ — Democratic congressional candidate and US Navy veteran Rebecca Bennett is calling on U.S. Representative Tom Kean, Jr. (R-7) to explain his decision to vote in favor of legislation that will cut healthcare and other critical services for servicemen and women. Rep. Kean joined nearly all other Congressional Republicans in voting for H.R. 1968, a continuing resolution that included $22.8 billion in cuts to the PACT Act, which provides healthcare for veterans with cancer and other diseases caused by toxic exposures during their service, as well as billions in support for homeless veterans, veteran small business owners and more.
Bennett qualifies for PACT Act coverage based on the areas where she deployed during her military career and personally knows veterans who depend on the program for their health care coverage, giving her a unique and personal stake in this critical issue.
“When military veterans return home from fighting for our country they deserve our respect and support, but Congressman Kean just voted to cut billions of dollars out of critical healthcare programs that combat veterans rely on,” said Bennett. “Congressman Kean needs to explain why he would support legislation that takes healthcare coverage away from brave men and women who put their lives on the line to serve our country. Veterans and everyone in the 7th District deserve answers, and when I’m elected to Congress I will never stop fighting to restore this critically important funding.”
Bennett launched her campaign last month with a video highlighting her lifetime of public service and commitment to making New Jersey more affordable, creating better job opportunities and working across the aisle to make government work better for everyone. She has hit the ground running since then with over 1,000 individual campaign donors, showcasing her strong appeal to grassroots supporters who are ready to elect a new generation of leadership in Washington.
