FOR IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE

PEOPLE’S ORGANIZATION FOR PROGRESS WILL PROTEST TRUMP AND MUSK BUDGET CUTS, FIRINGS, AND POLICIES

The People’s Organization For Progress (POP), will protest against the Trump administration’s budget cuts, layoffs, and other policies on Wednesday, March 12th, 12 noon, at the Rodino Federal Building, 970 Broad Street in Newark, New Jersey.

“The purpose of this protest is to demonstrate our firm opposition to social programs cuts, mass firings throughout the federal government, and destructive policies proposed by President Donald Trump and Elon Musk,” Lawrence Hamm, Chairman, People’s Organization For Progress stated.

“We vehemently oppose and are abhorred by their proposed attacks on Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, the SNAP program, Pell Grants, Department of Education, Veterans Administration, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, National Labor Relations Board, civil rights and equal employment opportunity offices, and USAID among others,” Hamm stated.

“POP condemns in no uncertain terms the Trump administration’s racist policy of eliminating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs and terminating their employees,” Hamm said.

“We call for an end to to Trump’s Gestapo style round up, mass incarceration and deportation of undocumented immigrants and separation of their families. This is not a solution and ultimately will only make matters worse while making investors in the private prisons industry richer,” he said.

Hamm said that the Trump and Musk regime are waging class warfare against the majority of the people in the U.S. He said the budget cuts and mass purging of federal employees are going to hurt working people, poor people and the middle class the most.

“The policies of our fascist president and the Nazi saluting Musk will hurt women, children, senior citizens, students, and veterans who are among the most vulnerable in our society. All of this so Trump can give the billionaires who helped pay for his election another round of trillion dollar tax breaks,” he said.

“We also demand that Congress reverse Trump’s executive order to impose economic sanctions against South Africa. This policy is based on the racist lie that whites in that country are being oppressed because of the current government’s land reform policy,” he said.

“When the truth is that colonial and apartheid era policies resulted in whites who are ten percent of the population owning eighty percent of the land. And blacks who are eighty present of the population owning 10 percent of the land,” he said.

“We are also protesting to make known our unequivocal opposition to the budget bill recently passed by Republicans in the House of Representatives,” he said.

“If the Senate passes the House budget bill or a similar version of their own the result would be draconian cuts to important social programs, and this would hurt many Americans who depend upon them, ” Hamm said.

“We call upon the U.S. Senate to reject the House budget bill and pass a budget that will help Americans not hurt them,” he said.

Hamm said Trump and Musk are trying to take the country back to an era before the Civil Rights Movement and the New Deal. “They are trying to drag us backwards but we are not going back without a fight,” he said.

POP is planning more protests against the Trump administration beyond the one at the federal building. The group is calling for a march on April 4th, the anniversary of the assassination of Dr Martin Luther King. It is also planning a “people’s convention” for April 26th.
