Congresswoman Pou Votes Against Extremist, Misguided Government Funding Measure
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Nellie Pou (D-NJ-09) today voted against the House Republicans’ resolution funding the government.
“Americans have endured nearly two months of chaos and malfeasance under this President and this Congress. Our nation is under an awful strain. This blank check funding bill will be nothing more than a continuation of those problems,” said Congresswoman Pou. “This measure will lead to evictions, seniors going hungry, and veterans denied cancer care. It defunds the police and denies millions for critical transportation and infrastructure projects in our community as well as medical research. And it provides no protections against cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, and no guardrails against Elon Musk arbitrarily slashing critical programs. I cannot in good conscience support these deep cuts.”
“I came to Congress to lower costs and get things done for regular Americans and I will never take a government shutdown lightly. Republicans control the Congress and the White House and it’s their responsibility to pass funding measures. I’m disappointed that the Republican leadership chose to push through a partisan funding bill rather than negotiate for a bipartisan appropriations package. The bill offered by Republicans today is an invitation to instability and I voted no.”
