Ruben Ramos Kickoff Fundraiser Packed House, Major Success

Councilman Ramos’ first mayoral fundraiser was a booming success Tuesday night, with over 140 attendees

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken mayoral candidate and Fourth Ward Councilman Ruben Ramos held a highly successful campaign kickoff fundraising event on Tuesday night, with over 140 supporters in attendance.

“The amazing support we’ve received since launching this campaign is a testament to the excitement of folks in Hoboken as we begin this journey together,” Councilman Ramos said. “The campaign is built on our strength as a team. I’m honored to have this awesome support from residents throughout our city who believe that we need a Mayor who will get us back to basics and solve the problems facing our community.”

Among the 140 attendees were First Ward Councilman Paul Presinzano, Assemblywoman Jessica Ramirez of the 32nd Legislative District, and Ward D Councilman Yousef Saleh of Jersey City, who is running for State Assembly in the 32nd District. The event was also attended by prominent labor leaders, including Hudson County Building and Construction Trades Council President Pat Kelleher and IBEW Local 164 Business Manager Daniel Gumble.

“This is a grassroots campaign from day one,” Councilman Presinzano said. “I’m looking around and seeing neighbors from all over town. Small dollar contributions to get Hoboken moving in the right direction. Ruben’s coalition is growing and I’m glad to be a part of it.”

In his formal announcement on February 21, Ramos pledged to get city government back to basics and focus on critical needs like public safety, quality of life, programs for seniors and children, and housing affordability. He is a public school teacher, former State Assemblyman, and has served as Fourth Ward Councilman since 2015.

“The City of Hoboken is the only home I’ve ever known, and I’ve always believed that it’s a perfect place to raise my family. We’re going to make it more affordable, more resident friendly, and above all else we’re going to get back to the basics,” Councilman Ramos said, following the event.

“Our leaders have been distracted by pie-in-the-sky projects, and at the same time some of our infrastructure is crumbling. Maintaining a pier isn’t sexy, but that’s what back to the basics is all about. Not skipping over the nitty gritty work to go straight to the ribbon cutting.”

Ramos was the youngest Council member in Hoboken history when he was first elected in 1999. He was then elected as Councilman-at-Large in 2001. He represented the 33rd Legislative District in the State Assembly starting in 2007 and served three terms.

He has worked as a public school teacher in the Paterson school district for over 27 years, currently teaching middle school students. He is a cancer survivor who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease in 1999 and made a full recovery. Ruben and his wife Norma have three children who have attended local public schools and he lives in Southwest Hoboken.
