STATEMENT OF CHAIRMAN LEROY J. JONES, JR. ON SENATOR CORY BOOKER’S SENATE SPEECH

TRENTON, NJ:  Leroy J. Jones Jr., Chairman of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, released the following statement:

“Last night, Senator Cory Booker took the Senate floor at around 7 p.m. to bring some New Jersey style Real Talk to the American people – and he hasn’t stopped.

Senator Booker has been laying out all of the ways in which the Trump administration is disregarding the Constitution, our laws, rules, and norms, and all the ways in which Trump, his Cabinet, and unelected-President Elon Musk are dismantling our government institutions and threatening our democracy.

I’m proud of my friend for standing up and telling it like it is. In New Jersey, we are lucky to have strong fighters representing our Democratic values in Washington.  This fearlessness in the face of authoritarianism and willingness to lay out the true costs of Trump and Musk’s actions in the face of true consequence takes guts. It takes guts to stand up to bullies, and we need to keep fighting if we are going to save our country. We need to call things what they really are, and Senator Booker has been doing that since last night.

Courage isn’t just standing up when you are likely to win, courage is standing up when you are most likely not to win. And that is what Senator Booker is doing right now – standing up for what is right knowing that the cards in our government are stacked against us.

We are proud of our #JerseyStrong Senator and hope he gets some much-needed rest at the end of his speech."
