Report: Menendez Denied Appeal

The U.S. Supreme Court said Monday it will not hear an appeal by Sen. Bob Menendez, potentially clearing the way for his trial on bribery and other charges to begin in September in Newark, according to a report on NorthJersey.com.

“Without comment, the nation’s top court rejected a petition from Menendez lawyers that argued a Philadelphia appeals court misinterpreted the Constitution’s ‘speech or debate’ clause, which bars the executive and judicial branches from questioning a member of Congress about legislative activity,” the report states.
