Rest in Peace, Mayor Bianchi
North Arlington Mayor Joseph Bianchi died last night after a battle with cancer.
He was 77.
A Republican, Mr. Bianchi was completing his first term in office.
Married with three children and eight grandchildren, he was a U.S. Army veteran, a 26-year member of the North Arlington Fire Department, and owner of Pal Joey’s Barbershop since 1965.
“He was a very good mayor who served his town with enthusiasm and dedication, a real part of the North Arlington community, who had his own business there, a barbershop,” said Bergen County Republican Organization Chairman Jack Zisa.
Mr. Bianchi was running for reelection at the time of his death.
“We had our differences, but he was always a standup guy,” said Al Granell, an independent running against Mr. Bianchi. “Our prayers go out to Catherine and Joe Bianchi’s family.”
Mark Yampaglia and Lillian Saldanha are also running for mayor of North Arlington.
I knew Mayor Joe for many years growing up in North Arlington. We went to Washington School and then on to North Arlington High. We graduated with the best class 1960. Joe was a wonderful friend and great husband to Cathy and his children. I last saw Joe in April of this year and we had a few good talks about old times. I want to express my great sorrow on hearing of his passing. Joe will be remembered as a good friend to all. North Arlington will miss him along with his fellow classmates. RIP Mayor Joe.
