Rest in Peace, Veronica “Ronnie” McGreevey
Mother of former Governor James McGreevey, Veronica “Ronnie” McGreevey died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on November 7.
Ronnie was born in the Greenville section of Jersey City, where she attended St. Patrick’s RC Church. She was a graduate of Holy Family Academy in Bayonne, St. Vincent’s Nursing School of NYC, and is a graduate of Seton Hall University, where she met Jack McGreevey, her loving husband of 62 years.
Ronnie and Jack McGreevey moved to Carteret and were active parishioners at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church.
Ronnie later attended Columbia University where she graduated with a M.A. and M.Ed.
Her nursing leadership positions range from Head Nurse and Supervisor of Medicine at Jersey City Medical Center to her active roles on the Board of Directors of the New Jersey League of Nursing, the New Jersey Board of Nursing, along with several nursing academic institutions.
Ronnie shared her commitment to quality nursing as Associate Professor, Middlesex Community College, and Instructor of Nursing at Muhlenberg School of Nursing. Until this past month, Ronnie tutored nursing students to improve their academic achievement and nursing care.
Ronnie and Jack McGreevey were married for 62 years and are the proud parents of 3 children Jim McGreevey, Caroline (McGreevey) Jones (husband Mark Jones), and Sharon McGreevey, grandchildren Morag and Jacqueline McGreevey, and Christopher and Catherine Jones.
Ronnie was a devoted wife and mother, who devoted her life to her family and nursing.
Friends may visit with the family at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, High Street, Carteret, Tuesday, November 13, from 4 pm to 7 pm. A funeral mass will be offered on Wednesday, November 14, at St. Joseph’s Church at 10 am. Burial to follow.
