Robinson Stumbles

Robinson

Chip Robinson had a bad night.

The Morris County Democratic chairman was near the top of the local political world in 2018 – when Dems took two congressional seats in Morris – and also a year ago when both Joe Biden and Cory Booker carried the once dependable GOP redoubt.

But then came Tuesday.

“Last night was a very difficult night for Democrats nationwide and statewide and our county was no different,” he said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.

The county’s Democratic state legislative and commission candidates didn’t even come close.
Dems also lost the biggest local prize – the mayor’s seat in Parsippany where Michael Soriano was the incumbent. Additionally, Chatham Township, which had flipped “blue” a few years ago, flipped back to “red.”

Left unsaid was that one of the Democratic commission candidates was un-endorsed by NJ 11th For Change, an influential local group, after it surfaced he didn’t support abortion rights. That has prompted calls by some in the party for Robinson’s resignation.
Undeterred, Robinson is thinking ahead.

He said Tuesday’s disappointment should coalesce Democrats around two goals.
One is passing the infrastructure and Build Back Better bills, which have been stymied in Congress by protracted Democratic infighting.

The other is for volunteers to get involved now to back the reelection campaigns of House members Mikie Sherrill (CD-11) and Tom Malinowski (CD-7).

  1. Chairman Chip and most of the local Morris County Democratic committee chairs should be cashiered forthwith.

  2. “undeterred” – IOW, in denial.

In Morris you can’t blame that dastardly “left”, so maybe the issue here is that when you run candidates that are essentially 90’s republicans, and there are actual republicans running, voters actually pick the real republicans.

Also, continue ignoring communities of color at your peril. You’re just leaving voters behind for no good reason. The best you can muster outside of white hetero suburban voters is a small LGBTQ coalition that you see class solidarity with.
