Sacco Pays Deference to Sweeney, Hopes He Prevails, Returns

Sacco

Veteran Senator Nick Sacco (D-32) of North Bergen said it felt like a Jim Florio election year.

As his colleagues lie around him in tatters, or remain aloft in postures of uncertainty, the Hudson County power broker with a penchant for political hyperactivity said now is hardly the time to make moves.

Even the phlegmatic Sacco admitted to being surprised by the circumstances of Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-3), who appears to have lost to non-union Republican truck driver Edward Durr.

The senator (and North Bergen mayor) would not comment – or speak candidly about – a succession to the senate throne in the event that Durr officially defeats the man who has served as leader of the state senate since 2010.

“We’re giving Steve Sweeney deference to do his recount and hopefully he will be back as senate President,” Sacco told InsiderNJ.
