Of San Francisco, Little Rock – and Morristown

One of the eternal delights of following politics is the consistency of it all.

On Thursday, Jay Webber and other Republicans took umbrage at a Democratic mailer that said Webber’s conservative views are more suited to Arkansas than New Jersey’s 11th District.

This, Republicans said, was an elitist put down of Arkansas.

And on Friday, the Webber campaign sent out a statement from a real life Arkansas native. That would be Christopher Yates, the mayor of Harding Township. Here is part of what it said.

“As a native son of that state (Arkansas) ,,, I did not find her (Mikie Sherrill’s) bigoted attempt to insult New Jersey conservatives, the good people of Arkansas, and me, surprising. We do, after all, know something about carpetbaggers.”

The mayor’s statement ended with this line, “Her entire campaign is built on the premise of turning CD-11 into San Francisco East and I think the voters here are going to reject that and send her the message that she should keep searching for another congressional district to represent. The moving vans are waiting.”

When you chew on that for a while, you can reach only one conclusion.

Referring to Arkansas to make a political point in New Jersey is vile and offensive.

But referring to San Francisco is perfectly fine.

Go figure.
