Schaffer Opposes Legislative Leadership’s Redistricting Proposal

Somerset County Democratic Chair Peg Schaffer has been appointed Interim Vice Chair of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, after Vice Chair Lizette Delgado-Polanco stepped down from the position.

Somerset County Democratic Chairwoman Peg Schaffer today announced her opposition to the legislative redistricting amendment being proposed in the State Legislature. The plan has drawn widespread condemnation from leaders of both parties, as well as academics, progressive groups and more. Under the Chairwoman’s leadership Somerset County Democrats won two Freeholder seats this year, as well as helping elect Tom Malinowski to Congress.

“This redistricting proposal would be devastating to Somerset County and could reverse the progress our party has worked so hard over the last several years to build,” said Schaffer. “At a time when we finally now have Democratic representation in Congress, in the legislature and on the Freeholder Board, this plan would alienate our awakened progressive base and re-energize the Republicans. I am firmly opposed to this plan and will do everything I can to defeat it.”
