Sen. Smith Address NJ’s Future in Clean Energy with Steve Adubato

Steve Adubato is joined by Sen. Bob Smith (D) – NJ, Chair of the Senate Environment & Energy Committee, to address New Jersey’s future in clean energy and the misinformation regarding offshore wind.
Steve Adubato asks the Senator to explain wind energy development and concerns it may endanger whales.

Senator Smith responds, “There are more than four studies by different agencies, different groups, scientifically based with real scientists doing the math. Every single one of them says there’s no impact on whales from windmills. By the way, we have no windmills up at this point as well as everybody knows, so it’s not any current windmills that are hurting them. In Europe, they didn’t have that experience and the truth of the matter is there are, I hate to say it in American politics I don’t want to be a conspiracy theorist, but you have the whole fossil industry not wanting to see windmills and wind energy take off. They have a couple of operatives in this game who are trying to scare the public that somehow, we’re hurting our fisheries and we’re not. The legislature, the Governor, we’re all in this together and we love our Coast, we love the Jersey Shore.”

  1. Adubato never asks the pertinent questions:

Senator Smith, are you a lawyer?

Senator Smith, are you lying now, or did you lie before about the windmills and their environmental impact, because you are getting donations from the windmill companies?

Senator Smith, did you know that Germany is taking down their windmill farms because they are affecting the sea and land environments, and provide very little useful energy? Did you know Germany is firing up coal plants and nuclear plants again to produce enough energy to heat and cool homes there?

Senator Smith, how much in donations do you receive from windmill farms to promote your propaganda on how good windmills are?

Senator Smith, you say there are MORE THAN 4 STUDIES by different agencies, different groups, scientifically based with real scientists doing the math. Every single one of them says there’s no impact on whales from windmills. How much were you paid to say this?

And, if it’s more than 4 studies, how many studies are there supporting this? 5, 6, 10, 20?

How many studies oppose these purported 4 studies and say that THERE IS IMPACT BY WINDMILLS ON WHALES????

Senator Smith, how much do you stand to make from the construction and implementation of these windmill farms? Hundreds of thousands? Millions? Tens of Millions?

  2. FYI Shell,BP, Equinor(Norwegian Oil) and Orsted(Formerly Danish Oil & Natural Gas) are offshore wind developers in New Jersey obviously they are fossil fuel companies. Even Exxon is getting involved in this heavily subsidized field.
If offshore wind surveying doesn’t harm marine life why is Atlantic Shores asking for an additional 1,500 Incidental Harassment Authorizations for its latest work? .
New Jersey is on track to have the largest and closest in proximity of any offshore wind project in the country just 9 miles from its beaches, as more citizens learn the facts they are less supportive of it.
