Senator Kim Condemns Trump Administration ‘Chaos and Corruption’
Tonight, in a marathon session of emergency speeches on the Senate Floor by Senate Democrats, Senator Andy Kim delivered remarks condemning President Donald Trump’s unconstitutional directive to prevent taxpayer dollars from reaching the people, families, and communities it belongs to. In his remarks, he called out corrupt attempts by the Trump Administration to take money from working families to provide handouts to billionaires and big corporations, and uplifted New Jerseyans’ fears about the direct harm that the Trump administration’s attempted freeze on federal funding will have on local services and programs. These included, but were not limited to, transportation assistance for veterans, meals for children and seniors, and help for those experiencing homelessness.

Key quotes from Senator Kim’s remarks as prepared include:
“Just yesterday, my office received more than 700 calls asking questions about the Trump Administration’s unconstitutional and brazen decision to take money away from them – to freeze programs that help people in every corner of our state and country.”
“The chaos is just a smokescreen for corruption. It’s quite clear: they want to take your money away from you and give it right to their billionaire donors and corporate interests.”
“Because behind the chaos, there are real victims to this corruption. There are real lives on the line when people are left behind.”
“I know this chaos is unnerving and frightening, the American people can rest assured that we will fight this chaos and focus on what matters most here: protecting you from the blatant corruption that is this Administration’s attempt to take money from our working families and give handouts to those at the very top.”

House Democrats are now fully engaged. The bell has rung. I think we see this for the constitutional test that it is, and we’re going to be aggressively pushing back,” echoed Rep. Jared Huffman (D-Calif.).
“Leader Jeffries described it as a legal fight, a legislative fight and a street fight. And I couldn’t put it better.”
