Senator Weinberg names Shane Mitchell as Chief of Staff
Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg has named Shane Mitchell as her Chief of Staff, effective Monday, August 2, 2021. Shane Mitchell has been a part of the Senator’s office since 2016 and has served as the Senator’s Legislative Director since 2017.
Mitchell is being elevated following the departure of Debra Francica, who had served as Chief of Staff previously. Governor Murphy appointed Francica to be the Bergen County Superintendent of Elections last week.
“Shane Mitchell has done a tremendous job advancing my legislative agenda in the statehouse,” said Sen. Weinberg. “With him as Legislative Director, we have passed a first-in-the-nation earned sick leave program, the most ambitious equal pay law in the country, NJ Transit reform, and the restored film production tax credit program. His statehouse experience will serve the district well, and I know he is well prepared to deliver excellent service to the residents of District 37.”
Raised in Mahwah, NJ, Mitchell is a graduate of Princeton University and the Johns Hopkins Public Management Program. He will continue to serve as Legislative Director alongside Deputy Legislative Director Karlito Almeda.
“I am humbled by the trust Senator Weinberg has placed in me, and am excited to get to work fighting for our constituents,” said Mitchell. “I have learned so much from my friend and predecessor, Debra Francica, and I am committed to the Senator’s progressive vision for a better, fairer New Jersey.”
