Bernard Kenny, beloved son of former Senator Bernard Kenny of Hoboken, died yesterday in his sleep at the age of 36.

“Bernard was loving, innocent, and, above all, courageous,” said his father. “He was a reliable and respectful friend to many and always had a kind word and a smile for those he met in passing. Bernard was a volunteer at the Hoboken soup kitchen every Tuesday and Thursday for the past three years.

“I am so proud to treasure him as my forever son and to be his forever father,” said the former senator. “He was one of those special people who we call a ‘good soul.’ Our true Anam Cara. May he rest now in eternal peace. May God bless him and keep him.”

Mr. Kenny lived many years with schizophrenia and other complications. His father said he lived those years with a profound grace and dignity.  “He did the very best he could with what he had,” Senator Kenny said.

The Kenny family is now preparing his Memorial Mass, to be held next week.

“Please remember Bernard by heartfully accepting those you love,” said Senator Kenny.
