Source: Caliguire Could Take Another Crack at Zwicker
He still has to grind out a run (and win) this year, but Somerset County Freeholder Mark Caliguire appears poised to take another crack at an assembly seat next year if he can weather 2018, a source told InsiderNJ.
A Republican from Montgomery, Caliguire challenged Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker (D-16) last year on a ticket with former Assemblywoman Donna Simon (R-16) and lost, upended by Zwicker and freshman Assemblyman Roy Freiman (D-16).
But off a win countywide this year he may be ready to do it again, the source said.
That could mean a Republican Primary. Former Rocky Hill Mayor Ed Zimmerman is also said to crave a run. There are, of course, two slots, but one of the candidates usually hails from Hunterdon and the other from Somerset.
