Source: Platkin and Plummer Appear to Have Lengthened Runways in Murphy World

State Senate President Steve Sweeney called for the governor’s chief counsel Matt Platkin to resign over the mishandling of sexual assault charges brought by Katie Brennan against Al Alvarez, another state worker, according to a Press of Atlantic City story.

Matt Platkin, the respected policy wonk who has headed up that part of the Phil Murphy for Governor Enterprise, is in the mix for the job of chief counsel in a Murphy Administration, should Murphy prevail on Nov. 7th in his tilt with Republican nominee Kim Guadagno.

A source said Platkin’s strength is his considerable issues base.

Another team member of Team Murphy, political director Braxton Plummer, is said to be at the verge of a deputy chief position in the administration.

InsiderNJ reported earlier this week that former Dick Codey Chief of Staff Peter Cammarano has the edge as chief of staff should Murphy get past Guadagno in less than two weeks.

  1. With all due respect to Platkin, who by all accounts is smart and capable… you have to be kidding me. Amateur hour in the State House. You can’t have a 20-something who is barely out of law school as the state’s chief lawyer. Has he ever tried a case? To put it in perspective… Chief Justice Rabner was Corzine’s first Chief Counsel.

      • Paul, let’s be serious. Murphy is already at a disadvantage being a governmental noobie, and he only further impinges his credibility by selecting novices like Platkin for top jobs.

While not making this an attack on Platkin, the truth is that he has no governmental or legislative experience to speak of, and no relationships with legislators who were elected to office before he was born. It would be a joke.
