Source: Saying Governor Murphy Wants Something is The Quickest Way for it to Become a Low Priority for Sweeney

A source tells NJ Insider that as a result of Governor Phil Murphy's appointment of a task force to investigate an NJEDA tax incentive program in place during the administration of former governor Chris Christie and its subsequent criminal referral to the state attorney general, Senate President Steve Sweeney will not prioritize Murphy's wishes during budget proceedings.

They tried, they really tried, a statehouse source admitted to InsiderNJ.

They didn’t want to go through another budget season like last year, the source confessed.

But that was before a governor’s task force stuck a floodlight up the nether-end of New Jersey, geographically closer to Philly than New York City, to gently paraphrase, on the legislative processes of business tax incentives.

Now, if someone – a lobbyist or someone else – says to Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-3), “The governor wants this, it will be the quickest way for something not to get done.”
