Essex County Freeholder Britnee Timberlake of East Orange will have the support of the Essex County Democratic Committee for the LD34 Assembly seat being vacated by Lieutenant Governor-elect Sheila Oliver.

The committee is scheduling a formal convention to approve Timberlake, but the former president of the Freeholder Board will have the organization’s support behind powerful Essex County Democratic Committee Chairman Leroy Jones.

Timberlake took over the presidency of the Freeholder Board in 2015 – the youngest freeholder in the state at the time and New Jersey’s only African American board president.

The founding Executive Director of a nonprofit affordable housing organization called the Essex Community Land Trust (ECLT), the assemblywoman prospect holds a Bachelors of Arts and Sciences in Political Science with a minor in Religious Studies in addition to a Masters of Public Administration concentration in Nonprofit Management all from Seton Hall University.

The committee’s expected choice of Timberlake will keep the seat in East Orange, home of Chairman Jones.
