Sources: Bayonne Poised to Deliver 90% to DeGise for HCDO Chair
In his pursuit of the Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO) chairmanship, Union City Mayor Brian P. Stack can grab about ten votes of the 102 total in Bayonne, according to sources in the maritime peninsular city.
Stack rival Amy DeGise has dibs on the rest in a city where high performance is critical for her victory, sources said.
“The county committee members are Jimmy Davis people and they just helped reelect him mayor [on May 8th],” a source told InsiderNJ. “They’re all on the ballot next week and their seats are uncontested.”
Two sources conceded the presence on the committee of some Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop allies.
Fulop is allied with Stack against DeGise.
“But those Fulop people number fewer than ten,” one of the sources insisted.
Amy DeGise’s father, Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise, sat down for breakfast with Davis just prior to the Memorial Day weekend to get a handshake on Bayonne support for his daughter.
Most Hudson insiders see a very close contest between Stack and DeGise for the chairmanship.
“The winner’s going to have it by about 20 votes,” one of the two sources told InsiderNJ. “It really could come down to turnout. If a tunnel goes out that day, the 20 people on the committee who work in New York that don’t end up getting there turn the result.”
