Sources: Caride in Strong Position to Go to the Administration
After late political rumblings last week, it appeared considerably less likely that Assemblywoman Marlene Caride would be going to the prosecutor’s office in Bergen, and more likely that she would surface in the department of banking and insurance or education, according to Democratic Party sources.
Sources close to the process said they heard Caride was Governor Phil Murphy’s choice to head banking and insurance, and not to fill the Bergen prosecutor position vacated by Attorney General in-waiting Gurbir Grewal. Another source said he had heard that the husband of Assemblyman Mila Jasey (D-27) was also a candidate for Banking and Insurance, but acknowledged that Caride might have gotten an upper-hand on the job. A third source said he had heard Caride’s name in connection with the Department of Education.
Caride chairs the Department of Education in the Assembly.
Regarding a soon-to-be-vacated prosecutor’s position, there is some internal tugging going on among the senators in Bergen, with state Senator Paul Sarlo (D-36) pulling for one candidate to succeed Grewal and Senator Loretta Weinberg (D-37) favoring someone else.
Freeholder Tracy Zur was a name in the mix to succeed Grewal. So were attorney Roosevelt Jean, attorney Jason Foy and attorney Deborah Veitch.
If indeed Caride goes to the administration, someone from Cliffside Park is favored to replace her, sources tell InsiderNJ. Just by virtue of size, population and influence, the municipality stands to get a pick, sources say.
