Sources: Romano Expected To Receive HCDO Backing for Freeholder

Sources told Insider NJ that Hoboken-based Freeholder Anthony “Stick” Romano is expected to receive the backing of the Hudson County Democratic Organization tomorrow for re-election.  Insider NJ reported on the possibility of a primary battle pitting the veteran incumbent Romano – who won off the line three years ago – against an HCDO-backed Councilman Ruben Ramos if the party organization didn’t receive assurances that Stick would stand down from a mayoral run.  If Romano indeed opts out of a mayoral bid, the field as it stands now would narrow to Mayor Dawn Zimmer and 1st Ward Councilman Michael DeFusco, widely-rumored to be considering a run.
