Mikie Sherrill is going national.
The congresswoman from the 11th District was a guest Friday night on the HBO show, “Real Time with Bill Maher.”
Maher, of course, is a comedian, but his L.A.-based show always offers a heavy dose of politics. And since it’s live, it’s up to date.
He may not be for everyone. His humor comes from a left wing perspective and this being HBO, also can be a bit raunchy. Still, regular viewers know that he often has right-leaning guests, most notably Ann Coulter. Last week, Megyn Kelly was a guest.
The congresswoman offered expected criticism of Trump for his actions that led to his impeachment, noting that the American people deserve better.
During a wide-ranging discussion on various topics, Sherrill got plugs in for New Jersey’s strong gun laws and its support to eventually raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.
Jackie Burns, a spokesperson for Sherrill, said the show reached out to the congresswoman, pointing out that Maher is a New Jersey native. He’s from northern Bergen County, or if you prefer political speak, CD-5.
At any rate, it is a bit remarkable that Sherrill, a freshman member of Congress, would merit such national attention. Sherrill certainly has been interviewed on cable TV shows, but appearing on a national entertainment program is a higher plane.
