OLD BRIDGE – State Senator Sam Thompson beat former Old Bridge Mayor Art Haney for the backing of the Middlesex GOP screening committee in LD12 but failed to secure the required two thirds majority to get the committee’s endorsement.

Thompson received 11 votes to Haney’s seven.

He needed 12.

The committee will submit both candidates’ names (and the names of their slates) to the full organization.
