Statement From The Office Of Senator Whelan
The office of the late Senate Jim Whelan (LD2) released the following statement this morning:
“It’s with a heartfelt sadness that we mourn the loss of our leader and friend Senator Jim Whelan.
Weeks ago, Jim underwent surgery to remove cancerous growths from his kidneys. Over the last couple of weeks, he was in and out of the hospital and rehabilitation. He returned home late last week.
Up until the moment he passed, Jim was doing what he loved, talking about his beloved City of Atlantic City. After ordering subs from his favorite White House Sub Shop, he was at his house ready to talk to a Netflix documentary crew about Atlantic City when he passed.
Senator James Whelan died yesterday after suffering a heart attack at his home. His passing was quick, and he felt no pain.
The Whelan family wishes to thank the first responders of the Atlantic City Fire Department, paramedics, doctors and staff at AtlantiCare Hospital in Atlantic City, the Atlantic City Police Department, and all the well-wishers who have reached out to his family, staff, and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held in Atlantic City in the coming weeks. Details are forthcoming.”
Sen. Whelan was a good public servant and a great person. Though on the other side tom the political aisle, I always found him willing to listen and open to suggestions. He always put his constituents first, a rare quality these days. RIP Senator.
