Woodbury, NJ – Today, Former Senate President Steve Sweeney named Kunal Atit as Campaign Manager for his effort for Governor.

This past election Atit served as Pennsylvania Deputy Campaign Manager for Harris for President, and has successfully managed campaigns for Congressman Matt Cartwright in a district President Trump won by 4 points in 2020, LG Austin Davis, Pennsylvania’s first Black Lieutenant Governor, and Bucks County Commissioners Diane Marseglia and Bob Harvie, the first successful re-election of Democratic Commissioners in County history. He has also served in senior roles in both campaigns and state government in California and Virginia.

Sweeney released the following statement regarding the newest addition to his team:

“My campaign for Governor is about fighting to make New Jersey more affordable, day in and day out. It is what I did as New Jersey’s longest serving Senate President and it is what I will do as our next Governor. I also know delivering results and winning tough fights requires having a strong and battle tested team and that is why I am excited to name Kunal Atit as my Campaign Manager.” Sweeney said. “Throughout his career Kunal has led and won campaigns in some of the country’s most competitive races and that is exactly the person I want leading my team. I look forward to fighting alongside him to win this race on behalf of New Jersey’s working families.

  1. If Steve Sweeney is the Dem nominee I’m voting 3rd party. I’d never vote Repub, but a race between Sweeney and any Repub would be like choosing between 2 Repubs. Sweeney said in 2006 that public workers should take a voluntary 15% wage and benefit cut and he still believes in “trickle-down” economics. Sweeney is an ignorant scab. Never Sweeney!

  2. Steve Sweeney is the most fiscally responsible candidate for Governor in 2025. Democrats need to remember that elections are about nominating a candidate who can beat their Republican opponent. The Democrats can only win if they nominate a candidate who has a record of being fiscally responsible. As State Senate President he bravely stood up for the wellbeing of the taxpayers and the working women and men of New Jersey. His primary opponents have no such record.

The two candidates from Washington DC ,Sherrill and Gottheimer, have fancy resumes but no record of fiscal responsibility. Their record is of spending with no accountability. New Jersey does not need that Beltway thinking. Democratic Party leaders are foolishly trying to force feed these ” shiny object” candidates on the Party. The Republican Party would love that to occur!

The two Mayors ,Fulop and Baraka ,have had serious fiscal problems in their own cities. Do the people of New Jersey really want them to bring their poor fiscal ideas to Trenton?

The president of the NJEA,Sean Spiller , is a good man but does anyone really think he will ever oppose his union brothers and sisters in State Budget matters?

Sweeney has a plan to control higher property taxes and Sweeney will support seniors by funding the STAYNJ senior property tax benefit. Sweeney has a record and a plan ,the others only have rhetoric or their own poor fiscal records.

The 2025 Governor’s race will be won on the issue of fiscal responsibility. The Republicans know that if Steve Sweeney wins the Democratic Party Primary they will lose the Governors race.

  3. “Meanwhile, federal data underscores just how DIRE the affordability crisis has become, with households earning $97,800 in New Jersey now considered low-income.”
Crushing tax burden and bloated spending is driving hard working families and businesses out.
New Jersey loves to celebrate its rich diversity and brags of its progressive policies, yet it has the sixth most segregated school system in the nation.
Facts matter. The next Governor of New Jersey will need to be very gutsy and bold.
The blue wall is cracking under the weight of needing to maintain status quo and the regurgitation of the normal oblivious rhetoric.
    New Jerseyans need help.
