Sussex County Surpasses 700 COVID-19 Cases Total, Reports 8 New Fatalities on Tuesday
As of Tuesday, April 21, 2020 the Sussex County Division of Health (SCDOH) was notified of 35 additional cases of COVID-19 among county residents. The total number of cases of COVID-19 in Sussex County is at 723. Please note that data is provisional and subject to revision. Names, addresses, and other personal identifying information of these residents cannot be released or shared with the community.
The Sussex County Division of Health is the lead agency for investigation of confirmed cases of COVID- 19, which includes contact tracing. During case investigation, the SCDOH determines which persons are close contacts, as defined by the New Jersey Department of Health, and makes the appropriate recommendations to those individuals.
Sussex County Freeholder Director Sylvia Petillo and the Sussex County Division of Health (SCDOH) are saddened to announce that they have been notified of eight additional COVID-19- related deaths in Sussex County, in an 89 year- old male, a 78 year- old female, a 66 year- old male, a 70 year- old male, a 73 year- old male, a 62 year- old male, and a 65 year- old male, all from Andover Township; and a 94 year- old female from Frankford Township. Please note, deaths are announced as they are reported to and verified by the SCDOH, not necessarily on the date that they occur. The SCDOH has been working with those individuals who came into contact with these patients. Those identified as close contacts are in their homes under self-quarantine and being monitored by the SCDOH staff.
The Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Sussex County Division of Health extend their condolences to the patients’ families and friends during this difficult time. The SCDOH is taking all possible steps to ensure the health and safety of our community, and asks for the public’s cooperation in following all recommendations put forth by county, state, and federal agencies.

The statewide COVID-19 count stands at 92,387 cases and 4,753 fatalities as of Tuesday, April 21st, an increase of 3,643 cases and 379 deaths since Monday. 7,594 people have been hospitalized, with 751 new hospitalizations on April 20th, and 650 discharges in the past day.
