The LD-32 Allen Wrench

The Democratic Assembly primary in LD-32 just got a bit less cluttered.
Assemblyman John Allen on Wednesday said he would not seek reelection in a district that covers Hoboken and parts of Jersey City.
“Serving the people of Hoboken and Jersey City has been an immense honor,” Allen said. “I’m incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made together, from the adoption of the Target Zero Commission to combat traffic fatalities and securing vital state funding for local projects, to advancing critical legislation on climate change, reproductive healthcare access, and gun violence prevention.”
Allen’s departure comes a day after Ravi Bhalla, the mayor of Hoboken, entered the Assembly race. Bhalla is not seeking reelection as mayor.
The other incumbent in the district is Jessica Ramirez. Also running is Katie Brennan.
Allen in a statement emphasized his commitment to maximizing his remaining time in office. He said:
“My focus remains squarely on delivering for my constituents. I’ll continue fighting for the policies that matter most to the people of Hoboken, Jersey City and the entire state, and remain readily accessible to assist with any challenges they face navigating state services.”
Allen was elected in 2023, meaning he will serve only one term in the Legislature.
