Think Thank with Steve Adubato: Rep. Gottheimer on the Long-Term Economic Impact of COVID-19
Recorded on 5/13/20, Steve Adubato is joined by U.S. Representative Josh Gottheimer (D) – NJ, 5th Congressional District, to talk about the long-term economic impact of COVID-19 on New Jersey; the need for bipartisanship during a crisis; the importance of leadership from the state and federal government; and the need to protect seniors and veterans throughout the crisis.
U.S. Representative Josh Gottheimer(D)-NJ says the biggest issue for New Jersey during this challenging time is getting more resources back to the state, including protective gear for our frontline workers, first responders, and long-term care facilities. In addition to handling the public health crisis, New Jersey needs to handle the economic crisis that has been caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
U.S. Representative Josh Gottheimer(D)-NJ says, “What’s been consistent from the beginning of this, including the first package we passed in March, is how bipartisan this has been, how the country has come together, putting country ahead of partisan politics.”
Recorded on 5/13/20, he adds that as the pandemic and lockdowns continued on, he’s seen more of a regional divide in our country.
Long-term care facilities and nursing homes have been overwhelmed during this pandemic, but many facilities did not start using protective gear fast enough. He says, “That, to me, is unacceptable, those who didn’t move fast enough to take care of their patients and loved ones. That’s just not acceptable.”
